Frequently asked questions
Common questions about FLAME ENGINEERING from 3G Electric.
What fuel types are compatible with FLAME ENGINEERING torches?
All FLAME ENGINEERING torch kits listed in the 3G Electric catalog are designed for propane fuel only. The torches are not certified for use with natural gas, butane, or other fuel gases. Propane provides the necessary vapor pressure and heat content for the adjustable flame and jet configurations. Users should ensure the propane cylinder or bulk tank is equipped with a compatible regulator and hose assembly rated for the torch's flow rate.
What is the difference between the JET series and the VT/HT series FLAME ENGINEERING torches?
The JET series (e.g., JET 4 C, JET 8 C) are high-capacity jet torches that produce a concentrated, high-velocity flame for tasks requiring intense localized heat, such as thawing frozen pipes or heavy weed control. The VT and HT series are medium-capacity wide brush flame torches that produce a broader, less intense flame pattern, suitable for surface preparation, light thawing, and general outdoor heating. Both series feature adjustable flame control and external lighters.
Do FLAME ENGINEERING torch kits include a propane cylinder?
Most FLAME ENGINEERING torch kits sold by 3G Electric do not include a propane cylinder. The exception is the BP 2512 SVC model, which is a torch kit with an integrated cylinder. For all other models (JET 4 C, JET 8 C, VT2-1/2-24CE, VT3-30CS, VT3-30SVC, HT 1-1/2-10CR), the user must supply a separate propane cylinder and appropriate hose/regulator assembly. The torch kits include the torch head, external lighter, and fixed or straight tip.
Are FLAME ENGINEERING torches suitable for indoor use?
No. FLAME ENGINEERING torches are designed exclusively for outdoor use. They produce an open flame and consume oxygen, posing asphyxiation and fire hazards in enclosed spaces. Additionally, propane combustion generates carbon monoxide, which can accumulate to dangerous levels indoors. These torches should only be operated in well-ventilated outdoor areas away from combustible materials.
What is the typical lifespan of a FLAME ENGINEERING torch tip?
The lifespan of a FLAME ENGINEERING torch tip depends on usage frequency, fuel quality, and maintenance. Under normal operating conditions with clean propane and proper storage, the fixed or straight tips can last several years. Tips may degrade faster if exposed to corrosive environments or if the torch is operated at maximum output for extended periods. Regular inspection for cracks, deformation, or clogging is recommended. Replacement tips are available through 3G Electric.
